One Person Helped Change the lives of at risk children over 700,000 meals served

Hero: Charlie Muller

My story begins with a quote "In any city in America a drug addict or an alcoholic can get a hot meal in a city mission but what about a child?“. This quote comes from the person that I am nominating and he decided to do something about child hunger in America.
Charlie Muller who lives in Albany N.Y. was watching a national news show and the news man said that 30% of at risk children in America go to bed hungry. What Charlie had seen and heard moved him to feed at risk children. 15 years later, he has helped feed over 700,000 meals in 3 cities and two missions to children.
Charlie has built a prototype feeding program that is now being copied throughout America. That is not all one, of the little girls he was feeding was shot down with a community gun that is used by gangs. He decided to get these guns from these kids. He created an on going program called "Put it Down" to collect illegal guns and get them off the streets of Albany everyday. To date, over 300 guns were collected.
Now that is not all. Charlie is opening two homes for children whose parents were sent to jail - the first charter homes for children. Charlie has changed an entire city of violence and hunger. Shots fired in the city went down 40% and no child in Albany has to go to bed hungry. Two state-of-the-art feeding centers feed over 1000 children a day in the summer months.
This guy deserves a heads up. I travel the nation in performing arts and I met Charlie through his jail outreach. I have never seen anything like what he does. Check him out. If you want a true hero, ask the children he feeds. |
